It was holidays again, winter holidays was one of the best holidays I look forward to every year. It is a period of joy and a time to have much fun with both family and friends..

The last winter holiday remains indelible as we travelled to Akita, Japan.. At Akita, we had much fun, from engaging in different activities, going to car races and to the Museums before heading back to our place of residence, it was completely eccentric.

It was getting close to the end of our vacation, I and my cousin Tom decided to do some long strolling, on our way past a huge fence, we decided to find our way around the wall for the entrance. We finally found out there is no entrance for we were actually behind the wall and to our amazement, that surrounding was a home for a huge game, dog sled racing.

From the moment we arrived there, we walked around the place and we couldn't believe our eyes. Coincidentally, we both have engaged in a brief dog sled racing once in America and wished we could try one more time, an opportunity appears to have presented itself and we were both thankful.

We walked around the park and field and would routinely look at ourselves and smile, coincidentally and unknown to the both of us, we desperately wanted to get those dogs in our fronts again running wild and hard. Suddenly, Tom said to me, Austin, why not we try this race before leaving this country, it is going to be fun. I looked at him and with a feeling of acceptance I concurred.

On our way back home, we discussed on the pros and cons of dog sled races and had our arguments, we disagreed on quite a lot and finally agreed on something,"WE WOULD BE RACING AGAINST EACH OTHER". We wanted to put an end to our disagreements and decided to let the winner of the race win the arguments.

Six days prior to our leaving, we went to the game centre and requested they give us a chance to race around the field, they agreed and we booked a "two man race", it was scheduled to hold in the next two days after preparations has been finalized. We went back home and announced our upcoming match to our families and another version of fun was raised, I was seen as a worthy and steady contender compared to the rather tough but rough Tom.

THE GREAT DAY..

It was Friday, the scheduled day for the race, we all got up and was fully aware of what the day holds for every one of us and especially I and Tom, with smiles on everybody's faces, we got on with everything that needs to be done and headed for the arena.

When we got there, the dogs were already strapped and we were told to make a choice, I went straight to a set of dogs that had more Alaskans and picked, Tom picked his and we got prepared for the race.

The whistle was blown and we set out for the finishing line, Tom handled his straps like he was very good at it. He recklesslessly kept shouting and barking at the dogs to run faster..

A bending corner ahead of us before the finishing line was where Tom lost the battle, we were both moving on the same speed before reaching the corner, I was at the right side of the road and Tom was at the left, I began my bend sweetly and swiftly, Tom saw I was about overtaking him and barked angrily at the dogs and reached out to strike the dog closest to him only to lose control and fall out, I and my beautiful dogs continued racing against the wind before crossing the finishing line drawn and I won Tom.

That day till the day we left, Tom wished he could have his revenge and we all told him to seriously anticipate the next winter for we might be going back to Akita but unfortunately, our parents chose another country for the next holidays..
