Halep, the current number 1 in the world enters the competition and does so against an uncomfortable rival. The veteran Estonian player is a consummate matagigantes and if she manages to enter with inspiration she can give problems to the Romanian.
Halep is one of the main favorites, along with Serena. He is currently enjoying the best year of his life, as he is playing at an extremely high level and has improved his mental game that he dropped so many times in the past.
Kanepi has had his biggest success with his comeback in recent games and has shown solid background shots, but he must improve his second serve if he is going to succeed in this match. He has strength and talent, so he could give a big name if he manages to win the number one in the world, who has lost in the first round of a Grand Slam only three times since 2016.
Who is my bet? ?
For me indisputably Halep wins. With the exception of a disappointing loss in the third round at Wimbledon, the last few months have been the best of Halep's career. She won the French Open in May, defeating Stephens in the final, and then began her hard court campaign with a run to the title in Montreal, again defeating Stephens in the final.
Kanepi can get difficult in the moment of the game, but in my opinion the Romanian will end up surpassing her.
