Last night my US Open Winner pick Roger Federer put on an enigmatic show for New York tennis fans as he disposed of the flippant Aussie talent Nick Kyrgios in straight sets during the day game action.

Federer's victory in 3 sets cannot be underestimated when considering his chances of winning the US Open. In my personal opinion it shows he is on course to win the US Open ahead of Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal.

This was the two players first Grand Slam meeting and the match had signs of a classic tie breaker affair early in the first set. Both players were holding serve easily and given that in their past 12 sets they have played that 9 have gone to tie breaks you could see atleast 2 sets following suit here.

Instead Federer broke Kyrgios at 5-4, taking the first set which set the precedent for a dominant display of Federer back court tennis that saw him win the 2nd set 6-1 and 3rd 7-5.

Untouchable Tennis

Federer's offensive game was on fire last night and Kyrgios could see this when at times simply applauding some the points the 5 times US Open champion won with some delightful drop shots, slices and unanswerable forehands. Just to give you an idea he hit 51 winners to 24 unforced errors. That's 19 more winners than Kyrgios plus 11 less unforced errors.

Djokovic also recorded a 3-0 win against Gasquet, But wasn't quiet as impressive as Federer

Kyrgios failed to break Federer once with the Swiss star serving 16 aces, compare that to Djokovic who served just 3 against Gasquet and also hit 20 less winners and an equal amount of unforced errors and you can see Federer's game is warming up nicely ahead of what is likely to be a Quarter Final showdown with Djokovic that I think he will win this time round.

Both play weak opponents in the next round ahead of their meeting. It is virtually impossible to see either of them loosing tonight so we can look forward to an epic Grand Slam encounter to come!

Watch Federer Destroy Kyrgios in 3 Sets

I am calling it now Federer to beat Djokovic before going onto the final.

What do you guys think?
