One of these two players will beat Nadal in the Semi Final's before going on to face Federer in the final. Here's why...
Anyone who follows my writing will know I tend to watch a lot of tennis. Unlike the usual players like Federer and Nadal I know a lot about the different styles, strengths and weaknesses of some of the upcoming players too and their potential.See my earlier work where I highlighted Edmund's chances at Wimbledon compared to an injured Andy Murray and also my first ever article on Scorum on how Djokovic was my dark horse prediction after a surprising quarter final french open exit to an unknown Italian. Granted Djokovic is not an upcoming player but he is a revitalised player who many have overlooked for Wimbledon this year.
Djokovic has been steadily getting back to his old self this year and whilst some have been more concerned with some surprised defeats I have been focused on his general patterns of play and consistency which are improving quickly. He's not had to play anyone above average yet at Wimbledon but he's not dropped a set and looks solid. Ironically Djokovic's next match is against my other player this and previous article's have focused on - Great Britian's Kyle Edmund.
I have to say at this stage I am disappointed these two players are facing each other so early in the draw because both have potential to go a lot further so I would have liked to see them play in a quarter or semi final together.
Edmund unlike Murray is an aggressive attacking player with a ferocious forehand and he has improved his game dramatically over the past few years (serve and backhand). Just look how he dispatched of Bradley Klahn yesterday, a player in the past that he has struggled to beat - where as Klahn has slid backwards in his career Edmund is surging forwards. He totally dominated that match with his forehand.
Edmund vs Klahn Highlights: Edmund Blitzes the Court
If I had to choose between a fit Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund I would still pick Edmund to feature at Wimbledon because he brings a much more exciting style of play to the court and it's now his turn to shine. Murray has had his time although I wish him his well in getting back to full fitness.
This is going to be The Match of the Next Round at Wimbledon for sure for anyone who likes to watch Wimbledon and his little time - choose this one. Edmund and Djokovic met earlier this year in Madrid on Clay where Edmund won 2-1 in what was a sheer display of power with his forehand. However Djokovic was still finding his feet then after 6 months out last year with an elbow injury, he still is now to be fair. But he's looking a lot of more confident so this will be a closer match than in Madrid.
Which ever of these two players prevails I think will go on to reach the final this year and face Federer. Yes I predict one of them will defeat Nadal in the Semi's it's grass, Nadal's worst surface. Even though I am British I have no bias as to which player I want that to be, I would love to see both Djok and Edmund face Federer in the final. I think both players have the potential of giving Federer a great game and on the day even beating him if Federer is below par as he has proven this year on a handful of occasions.
Check my article out on other threats to Federer this year at Wimbledon and why there's no great certainty he will win his 9th Wimbledon title.
How do you guys see this match going and Federer's chances of winning a 9th Wimbledon title?
