For the first time in 18 months, Canadian Eugenie Bouchard appeared in the semi-finals of the WTA tournament at the Swiss Open in 2018. The world number five took Veronika Kudermetova of Russia in the quarter-finals on Friday (20/7).

Bouchard earned his first semi-final since Apia International in Sydney in January last year with a straight sets 7-5, 6-0 victory over qualifier Kudermetova.

"I'm happy to play another game, I do not really compare or think about the past, I just have a game tomorrow and that's good, it's about playing good tennis," commented the 24-year-old woman as quoted by Tri City News.

Finalists Wimbledon 2014 is admitted to really recognize the power of his opponent's punch. If Kudermetova did a few strokes, then he should also be able to keep up with a hard shot too.

"I have to really fight well and take advantage, and I do better in the second set, I'm also very proud of how I stay focused after the care he takes," said the world's 146th seed.

Bouchard must beat top seed Alize Cornet if he wants to reach his first WTA Tour final since February 2016. Cornet, who came from France, advanced to the last four after beating Australian veteran Samantha Stosur 6-4 7-6 (7-2) .
