Struggles happen in life always, especially when you're a professional athlete. One of those problems came with Novak Djokovic. After winning the Roland Garros in 2016. the bubble just blew. He started losing, the level of his game went down, even changed the coaching staff.

Instead of winning combination with Marian Vajda and Boris Becker came the combination with Andre Agassi and Radek Štepanek. But before two of them in the first plan came a guy that all fans of Serbian player disliked - Pepe Imaz. He is some kind of life coach, a guru how they called him. He messed up that killer instinct that Novak had. He started forcing the "Love and peace" (Amor y Paz) that was the slogan of Imaz. But now, after two years of problems, there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Vajda and the winning team came back together. Wimbledon trophy proves it. About that and some other things Vajda spoke to local "Dennik šport".

"It's true, I wanted Novak to stop work with Imaz. However, that wasn't the first thing I asked for. Wanted to go and see Djokovic fist, then we set up a plan of work for the following months. Barcelona we had a complete team and we could sit and talk about everything. We just wanted other people to stay away from the tennis related things. We didn't want Novak to consider this sport as a philosophy - says Vajda.

That is one thing that he was missing, the body language, the mental state, nothing was on the desired level.

"I didn't want him to be affected by the people that know tennis but don't understand the psychology of the top athlete. You can't think of this sport as philosophy. It is a game where one guy plays another. If you want to be the best you can do that only by doing the same drills on training over and over again. By playing matches, by having the strong mental state. When you see the opponent on the other side of the net, you have to think how to get him out of his comfort zone and out of position. Not think about Budha. I'm glad we agreed on priorities. We all went in the same direction and result came in London.

One of the main topics was the fact that Novak is not eating meat. That's why Gebhard Gritsch came.

"He worked with him a lot, especially made sure he ate a lot of proteins and muscle fibres. Novak got his muscles back, cause he has a perfect body for an athlete. His diet was mostly vegetarian, but it was necessary for him to eat fish, cause he doesn't eat meat at all. We got him on the right diet and now he's feeling much better. Working on everything to become a great champion and I hope we will continue on the same path for US open - said Vajda.
