Roger Federer said he would defend his title at the Hopman Tennis Cup for mixed teams in Perth along with his teammate Belinda Pincic, saying he thought the tournament would be the perfect preparation for the Australian Open.

Federer won the last two Australian Open titles and made his first major league tour of the year after participating in the Hopman Cup in Perth on December 29.

"The Hopman Cup is the perfect preparation for the Australian Open and things went well with me in the last two years," Federer said. "I cannot wait to go back."

In addition to Federer and Benicic, the pair who lost last year's final, made up of Anglic Kerber and Alexandre Zverev, will also take part.
