Before heading to watch the Monza formula 1 Grand Prix and crossing fingers for Ferrari here my 5th edition of Sports Quote of the Day - this time by a female Tennis pioneer.
Champions keep playing until they get it right."
The lady who is linked to that great and motivational quote is Billie Jean King - one of the true pioneers for Women Tennis. She was and still is an inspiration for many people, not only girls, not only people in sports but also for entrepreneurs.
Who is Billie Jean King?
King was US-American tennis player, former No. 1 of the world. She won 39 Grand Slam titles in total as well as several Federation Cups for the USA. She always has been a fighter for gender equality. One of her key milestones was being founder of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). What exactly did she fight for on and outside the tennis court? First of all Billie was aiming for equal prize money for women and men including a highlight in 1973 with the “Battle of the Sexes” - a tennis match against former tennis champ Bobby Riggs. Bobby was judging lady tennis to be inferior. This event got a lot publicity and the lady kicked Riggs butt and did beat him 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 - nice one.
Outside the court in the 1980ies she was probably the first celeb in the US to openly admit she was attracted to the same gender by having had a same-sex relationship and later supported the gay rights movement.
Motivational Quotes will continue
Apart from my Sports History Series this motivational daily quotes have been some of my first initiatives and I plan to continue with them - not daily, not weekly but when I see fit. Thanks to all who provided feedback on the last issues and via chats.
I will try to keep the messages as short as possible by also providing enough content so it makes sense for the reader. Personally I like both, in-depth long articles and very short (can be a photo with a clear, catchy message) content too. I am used to write real long content from my job but I feel we have to make sure to accept also different ways of content creation on Scorum!
Feel free to comment if the quotes do inspire you or not. Always happy to receive your feedback and work on other things too.
