Three Russian tennis players played at the Madrid tournament: Medvedev, Karatsev and Rublev. They were able to reach 3 laps, after which they retired. What matters is that they were the favorites in their confrontations.
Departure of Khachanov
As you would expect, 4 Russian tennis players, who are in the TOP-30 of the strongest in the world, made their way to the main draw of Masters. In the first round, Khachanov met with K. Nishikori. In the first set, he was able to put the squeeze on the opponent in a time-break. But failed 2 subsequent ones. The result of the match: 7 - 6, 2 - 6 and 2 - 6. This was the first loss. The fans were hoping for the top three.
Aslan Karatsev
The Russian tennis player has repeatedly outplayed rivals in the TOP-10 of the rating. In the first round, he beat Hugo Humbert in two sets (7-5 and 6-4). In the second round, he broke the resistance of the classic primer Shvartsman. This despite the fact that Aslan lost the first set. Match result: 2 - 6, 6 - 4 and 6 - 1). The third circle was too much for Karatsev. He met with A. Bublik. The rival, in the quotes, was an outsider. But Aslan could not offer Alexander worthy resistance. Match result: 0 - 2 (4 - 6 and 3 - 6).
Daniil Medvedev
Everyone understood perfectly well that Daniel was holding the first clay tournament in 2021. He has survived the coronavirus and is struggling to recover. Before the Masters, he underwent a serious medical examination. The Russian started immediately from the second round. His first rival was Davidovich Fokina. Daniel had a hard time getting into the game. He lost the first set on his nerves with a score of 4 - 6. Gradually, he was able to adjust to the surface and calm down. Thanks to his confidence, Medvedev won the next two sets. Match result: 2 - 1 (4 - 6, 6 - 4 and 6 - 6 - 2).
In the third round, he met with Garin (another typical dirt coat). At the beginning of the match, the effects of the coronavirus began to appear. Suddenly, Medvedev's nose began to bleed. The doctors were able to stop the bleeding. Yet Garin won the first set. In the second set, a stubborn struggle ensued. Daniel wins the time break. But in the third set, he could not tune in. Final result: 1 - 2 (4 - 6, 7 - 6 and 6 - 1). Before throwing slippers, we must understand that Daniel suffered a serious illness. He will need to recover for a long time.
Andrey Rublev
Rublev started immediately from the second round. His first rival was Tommy Paul. In the first set, the Russian lost in a time-break. But already in the second set I was able to rehabilitate myself. In the third set, Rublev had no problems. He wins with the score: 1 - 2 (6 - 7, 6 - 3 and 6 - 4). In the third round, Rublev met with D. Isner. The opponent confidently filed for the elimination. In total, he figured out 29 aces. In the first set, the opponents gradually reached the time-break. John took a sharp lead in the score 4 - 0. Yet Rublev was able to earn a few points. He lost 7 - 6 (7 - 4). The second set turned out to be much more successful for the Russian. He wins 3 - 6. In the third set Rublev failed to convert a break point and the match was brought to the second time break. And in this rally, Isner was stronger. Won with the same score as in the first set. As a result, Rublev leaves the tournament after losing in the 3rd round.
Unfortunately, the Russians were unable to confirm the status of favorites in their third round matches. They lost to their rivals and left Spain ahead of schedule. If it is still possible to understand Khachanov and Medvedev, then Karatsev and Rublev should have reached the quarterfinals. The tournament in Rome starts next week. Let's hope that tennis players will be able to show a higher quality of play.
