Serena Williams will have a chance to re-write the history of tennis and win her 24th Grand Slam title. That would equal the result of Australian legend Margaret Court. The only challenge left in Serena's way is Naomi Osaka, who is on her own quest of becoming the first Japanese player to win Grand Slam. So, the history will be made no matter what. However, the US Open final and Serena's chance to make history brings me back to the US Open 2015 when Serena Williams had a chance to win all 4 Grand Slams in one year and join the club of only 3 players.

Serena Williams was unstoppable in 2015. Before coming to the US Open, she has easily won other 3 Grand Slams. There were no women on tour who could dream about beating Serena, especially in New York. And Serena has reached the semi-finals, beating many great women, including Venus Williams, on the way. Only two more victories were between Serena and her ultimate dream. At that time of the season, she had a perfect 52-2 record, which fits boxing legends better than tennis players. I mean, to win 52 matches in one year and only lose twice is beyond fantastic.

Fast forward to Roberta Vinci interview right after beating Serena Williams. What a class act this women is. Impossible not to fall in love.

Roberta Vinci, one of the best ever doubles player, was on the other side of the court in the semi-finals of the US Open 2015. Before the tournament, her odds to win in New York were 300:1, so you can do the math - she was not even remotely close to Serena's level at that point of her career. And it was obvious during the first set, which went in Serena's favor 6:2.

What happened next is considered to be one of the biggest upsets and surprises in tennis, if not all sports, history. Roberta Vinci started hitting the ball hard and defending well. Her slice shots worked in favor of her and Roberta did not give up even when she was down in the third set 2:0 40:30. As Roberta said after the match: "I just tried to put the ball back to the court and run. Put the ball on the court and run. And then I won". Well, I believe it would be hard to describe the legendary match any better. We could talk about wonderful defense from Vinci and unforced errors of Serena Williams (she was obviously under a lot of pressure even for such a legend), but in the end, it was Roberta Vinci's big heart and love for the sport that helped her achieve the dream. Just look at this point, and you will understand:

To win such a point against Serena Williams in clutch moments is almost impossible. Vinci went on to win the game, so this point turned out to be the deciding one. Can you believe it?

It was the most heartbreaking loss in Serena Williams' career. She chose to end the season with that loss to Vinci. The season, which could have been considered the most dominant season of any athlete in any sports, became a season with a bitter ending and crushed dreams. Of course, Serena remained world's number 1 and added 3 Grand Slam titles in 2015, but the only thing she will remember from that year will be Roberta Vinci, the energetic Italian woman, who reminded the world why tennis is such an exciting sport to watch. She has also shown everyone that we can win in life even when nobody believes in us. That said, I hope that at least some bettors believed in Vinci because 300:1 odds don't go through every day.

Would you agree that this was the biggest upset in tennis history? Can you see Naomi Osaka beating Serena Williams this Saturday? I personally feel that Osaka will have her chances, but at the same time, it would be nice to see Serena Williams winning the US Open in front of her nation again after 4 years.
