Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev find the ranking system implemented by the ATP to adjust for last season's break unfair.
After Alexander Zverev on Monday in Acapulco, a new player is questioning the new way of calculating the ATP rankings, designed to take into account the five-month break from competition during the last season. "If we had the normal system, I would be something like number four in the world I think." said Andrey Rublev. "With the system we have at the moment for me it's more difficult to be number four." The Russian has won 16 of his 18 matches in 2021, but is only eighth in the rankings. Alexander Zverev Germany's Alexander Zverev complained about the new rankings, with Roger Federer still ahead of him at No. 6, despite a 405-day absence from the tour. "There's no bigger fan of Roger than me, but he hasn't played for a whole year and he's above me in the rankings. I've played a Grand Slam final, the Masters final, I've won two tournaments. I should be number four or five in the normal system! As long as we have the current system, the ranking doesn't matter to me. " The new ATP ranking system has been extended until August 9. After that date, the ATP hopes that the old system, based on results from the last year, will apply again.
