On Sunday, October 28th, 1900, France defeated Great Britain 27-8 to win the first gold medal in Olympic men’s rugby history. It was the first gold medal for France in Olympic men’s rugby. The tournament was unusual in that there were only a total of two matches played, with France competing in both as they also defeated Germany 27-17 two weeks prior to their match against Great Britain. Therefore, Great Britain and Germany were both awarded the silver medal. The tournament was held in France, with Paris as the host city.
Emile Sarrade of France scored the most tries in the tournament with five.
