Betman would like to categorize this post ans “news”, but is it really? I mean, Serbian women volleyball team won European Championship title — again. Nothing new in that, right?
Well, we have to find something to make it news. What could it be? A fact that they have made a drama out of this finale? They had to, they have played against the host, Turkey, and it would be quite impolite to dispatch host with 3:0 and let the audience disappointed and angry. It had to be stressful, nerve-wreckingly exciting — 3:2 (21:25, 25:21, 25:21, 22:25, 15:13). This way they can say “it was a titan fight, and we lost by a margin of just two points against a spectacular Serbia!” You see the difference? This way they can sell volleyball memorabilia with their signatures and try to get some more crypto to invest in education before the economic system collapses. But that would be an economic news, and not a volleyball ones. And still, where are the volleyball news in one more Serbian title? That Tijana Bošković was MVP, again?
Not even that is new. There is one new element, though, if we remember that Serbia won the World Champions title last year with two Tijanas (Bošković and Malešević). This time CEV has changed the rules: Now Serbian squad is not allowed more than one Tijana in the team, so the other teams could have a bit better winning chance. Which allowed the other Tijana, you know, Malešević one, to take well deserved vacation… and demonstrate some other Champ habits:
Betman would say this is far better reward, isn’t it?
But Betman, we never heard about that change of rules!
Of course you didn’t — that’s why this is a news post! Betman has another piece of news for those who still think this fine sport is all about the friendship, fair play, uniting nations and having some fancy shaped recycle bin…
