Last Friday, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) received a good news from the FIBA committee. The FIBA authorized Greg Slaughter, a 7-footer from the Barangay Ginebra Kings, to play for the upcoming FIBA World Cup as a local player. This news gave the whole team some confidence for their first game against the big men of Iran.

Gregory William Slaughter is a Filipino-American basketball player who is currently playing with Barangay Ginebra. One of the tallest players in the PBA with a height of 7 ft and 0 inches. Last PBA season, he helped the Barangay Ginebra team to won the championship match against the San Miguel Beermen. He doesn't have the speed or quickness like the other big men but he is really difficult to stop on the inside. He will be used to stop the tall players of Iran on their first match in the FIBA World Cup.

From this news, coach Yeng Guiao will now only choose between the two players instead of three who will use as a naturalized player on the upcoming game with Iran. And they are Stanley Pringle, a Filipino-American just like Slaughter, and Christian Standhardinger who is a Filipino-German.

Let's hope for the team Philippines to play well and come home with a trophy.

Laban Pilipinas! Puso!
