Today marks the unofficial start of the 2019-2020 Season of the Belgian Jupiler League with the Supercup between last seasons champion and the cup winner.
Racing Genk vs KV Mechelen
The Super Cup most years is seen as a glorified Friendly match especially by the away team. Last 13 editions have all been won by the team that became champion the last season. 9 out of those were won by 1 goal exactly. And an over 2.5 line hit 61.5% of the time (1.62 odds). The linens and odds on the Asian market on Sportmarket Pro are set at -1.25 @ 1.920 and Over 2.5 @ 1.680 which is very close to what the history of this match suggests.
Genk saw some Key players of the team the became champion with leave (Trossard & Maliovski) along with success coach Clement. Players like Berge & Samatta are still with the team but are still looking to possibly leave the team. From what it looks like, the most expensive incoming transfers won't start in this match (Hagi, Bongonda, Nygren, OIdey). Genk is still able to field what should be a solid offensive team though. New coach Mazu was known in Charleroi for a very defensive play style breaking down the opponents. He already stated that he will adjust based on how Genk played last season and build on that and I very much doubt we will see "Charleroi 2.0" at the start of the season. For Mechelen, there has been a lot of drama and it has been hard for them to prepare for the new season since they did not know if they were going to be allowed to play in the first league after their promotion. They will be without Kaya, Tainmont and Castro. Their practice matches so far also haven't been that successful without a win in the last 4 games against not that good opponents.
The home win would be the most logical outcome, but with so many Supercup results ending with a 1 goal difference win it's hard for me to take the -1.25 line. (Taking small 1.40 type odds is always out of the question for me in case that's not clear). I'm also leaning toward the over but I'm in no rush whatsoever to get involved pre-game. All betting action will be live in-game.
