Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach and his former boxing champion for 16 years the eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and they agreed to be together with the next fight of the Pinoy boxer.
Pacquiao was trained by his best friend and assistant trainer Roach Buboy Fernandez for the first time and resulted in a 7th round knockout win against Lucas Matthysse for the Pilipino to win the WBA welterweight title recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Roach admitted to BoxingScene.com that they spoke with Pacquiao and declared his desire to face in a rematch with the former WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn of Australia.
Horn won in a controversial 12-round unanimous decision against Pacquiao on the bout watched by 54,000 boxing fans at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium when he almost nearly knockout in the 9th round of the match on July 2, 2017.
Horn loss via 9th round knockout with American Terence Crawford to grab the WBO welterweight title on June 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada and immediately want to challenged a rematch with Pacquiao when he won against with Matthysse.
"I talked to Manny and I told him that he looked good. I think his opponent tried to pack it in early. He could not handle Manny's pressure, "Roach said. "It was a good fight for him. We have had several conversations where we have talked about working together. "
"I'm very busy with my boys right now. With fighters like Alberto Machado. The truth is I'm happy with the 16 years I was next to Manny. He is already 39 years old, "Roach said. "He still has good speed and power. But father time does not forgive and we all get slow. "
For Roach, the rematch with Horn is the best fight for Pacquiao before retiring.
“Horn would be a good fight to finish [his career]. But the names they are talking about out there [Vasyl Lomachenko and Terence Crawford],” Roach said. “I think they wouldn’t be the right opponents. I think that I wouldn’t like those fight for Manny.”
My Opinion
I'm with Roach, I think its better for Pacquiao to fight Horn but I would love to see a fight against Khan. Its ok for me if Pacquiao wants to fight Horn in order to settle down the controversial win of Horn. We dont know yet if Pacquiao will go with this fight and lets just wait for Pacquiao's team decision. Hope the fight will happen but I prefer Pacquiao vs Khan :)
