At the beginning I want to warn you this is amateur chess, I am far away from categories or chess titles and play chess just for fun. You might be disturbed when you see some of mistakes my opponent and I are making. I decided to publish this game because opponent had better rating than me and was stronger in material, but I found the way to defeat him despite odds were not in my favor! It was rapid 10 minute game played on the best chess platform out there Lichess.
After couple of moves it was Ruy-Lopez oppening. When he moved d Pawn forward I couldn't resist not to exchange Bishop for Knight because my wish was to double his Pawns on c line.
This is when fun began. My Queen was in the center, but retreated and I decided to move e Pawn forward. I didn't think about risk, noticed he missed opportunity to remove it in previous move and I assumed he will move Knight somewhere and I will be able to exchange bishops and to break his Bishop pair, but alas he moved Knight on e4 and attacked Queen and Bishop. He attacked it with 3 I defended it with only two and it seems I've lost it! Damn! Stupid!
When I lose material on so stupid way not anticipating what could happen in next move I get upset and start to play nervous and send all out in attack because without material tempo need to be devastating. It's like when you've got red card in football, you need to run more. So I moved f Pawn forward.
He didn't want to exchange but moved hid d Pawn near by and developed his pieces little better! I was in constant retreat but somehow managed to cover Queen with Knight. So far not good!
Fortunately he probably thought he already won this game and moved d Pawn forward before time and I quickly noticed I could get it! He is not going to remove my c because his Queen would be gone, he can't protect it with more pieces! He moved Queen behind on d4 trying to exchange, but I skillfully removed Pawn on d3 after which we exchanged Queens like he wanted. I doubled Rooks on e line, but he soon recover Pawn by removing mine on c2. I noticed nice c line and possibility to attack his Bishop on c2 with Rook on c3 and grab one of those two black c Pawns if not both. After he retreated Bishop I doubled Rooks on c line wanting to try to get both c Pawns.
He wanted Bishop - Knight exchange, but I loved double Rooks on c and removed his Bishop with h Pawn doubling them on f line. Good at least he doesn't have both Bishops now!
Soon after the table looked like this. I had two Pawns for Bishop and little chance to do something in this game!
Of course I didn't like an idea about switching Pawns left and walked near his Pawn. I've heard Pawns which pass opponents like this are more dangerous!!
At the end of the day I was forced to abandon b Pawn but at least I can count on his a Pawn. I anticipated he could move Bishop on b3 and I will have troubles defending that Pawn, but once he did that I moved Rook on b5 forcing him to exchange Rooks and I stayed with one dangerous b Pawns on b5 against Bishop. I also have one more on the right and that should be enough at least for draw don't you think ?
His Bishop must guard b7 to prevent promotion, his King started to move toward my Pawns but one g4 prevented him from advancing. That's when he moved his f Pawn but I got moment of inspiration after and didn't exchange but walk near it on e6. If he removes it with Bishop my b Pawn is going to promote! He can't do that and he can't move King on f7. His situation become to be worse as one Bishop can't protect from two such wide Pawns like mine are! He moved f Pawn one more square forward and I ate it in cold blood knowing if he eats mine with King my Pawn is going to promote! He found that out too and didn't dare to do so!
He moves between my Pawns just to see my g Pawn running 2 squares forward to protect brother on f line. It looked like water entered into his ears as he moved g Pawn forward which I eliminated with mine fromf line! His King moved right but BANG! I connected Pawns on e and f!
We are equal in material on Paper but Pawns worth more in ending of games than light pieces. Alone Pawns are even bigger danger! I started to move my King forward but left way knowing he can't do Ke4 because one of those three will promote. I started to gain confidence I can actually win this one!
I didn't care for g Pawn because if he goes forward with King there is very little chance he can stop Promotion of at least one of my Pawns.
My b Pawn started charge, got eliminated, he tried to catch one on e, but with his Bishop in danger he was forced to move it and I connected King with Pawn. That's when he decided to go down toward g Pawn, but as soon as I connected mine on f with one on e he was done!
He probably fell into trance as he didn't notice or expect I'd make wrong move and promote e instead of f Pawn and moved Pawn on other side and lost Bishop after which he surrendered the game!
Nice little win for me as I finally reached rating I deserve of around 1850 after too long time being bellow that! You can watch entire game here: https://lichess.org/@/Tawamba/tv#0
I want to point out one more thing. There is ongoing chess Olympiad in Budapest "Budapest 2024" and it's covered by Lichess and you can watch it on you tube or twitch. Youtube link is: https://www.youtube.com/live/5DyBATB5Koc
