There will be 61 matches played in the BBL this season, the highest no. of matches in its entire history. It is because of the introduction of a new BBL playoff format that includes matches like Eliminator, Qualifier, Knockout, Challenger, and the Final. Unlike previous seasons, the team finishing at 5th in the points table will also get a chance to play in the BBL playoffs. In the regular season of BBL, the Double round-robin format that includes home and away matches stays just like previous seasons.

A BBL team can now sign a maximum of 6 overseas players, this number has been increased from 4 overseas players in past seasons. Although there can still be a maximum of 2 overseas players included in the playing 11 just like previously. Also, there is a new rule being introduced for the super over too. If the super over gets tied, then it will be replayed until there is a definitive winner in the match. The toss will continue to be conducted with a bat flip just like last year, the visiting captain gets to choose either hills or flats.
