Delhi Capitals as they are called now is the new name adopted by the franchise Delhi Daredevils formed in 2008. Delhi Capitals have never won the IPL in its eleven years of existence but has always looked a strong team on paper. They had players like Virendra Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir playing for them but never managed to climb up to the top of the table. Later Shekhar Dhawan also made a name for himself playing in the IPL and is now the opening batsmen for the Indian national team in limited overs cricket.
Shikhar Dhawan is an impressive batsman and easily among the best in limited overs cricket. He has had a very successful stint in the IPL also scoring 4057 runs in 142 innings. In those innings, he has scored 32 half centuries which clearly indicates that he has been the backbone of the Delhi Capitals in the batting department for this season.
The second reputed Indian player in the Delhi Capitals squad is Rishab Pant. Pant is known for his aggressive and unorthodox style of batting. He is perhaps second only to Rohit Sharma in the Indian team in hitting sixes at will. He has scored 1248 runs in the 32 matches he has played among them is a century and 8 half centuries. The promising Shreyash Iyer is also among the Delhi Capitals players. He played well last year and the Capitals will hope he continues in the same vein this year also. The young Prithvi Shaw who debuted for India in Test matches recently is also a member of the squad. An attacking batsman by nature, he has scored 245 runs in nine matches which include two half-centuries. Colin Munro the New Zealander international is another player on the Capitals roster. Although his record in the Ipl is not very impressive, he is a good player and should come good this year. Collin Ingram is another batsman that the Delhi Capitals can call upon. He has played only three matches in the IPL and it will be interesting to see how he fares this season.
Leading the pack of bowlers for the Delhi Capitals will be Trent Boult. Boult is one of the best fast bowlers in the world and he has performed well in the IPL also. His best bowling spell in the IPL has been taking 3 wickets for 19 runs. He will most probably open the bowling for the Capitals with the Indian international Ishant Sharma. They also have Chriss Moriss who will bring more diversity to the pace bowling attack. The young Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal, who has been making waves wherever he goes is one of the spinners in the Capitals line-up. Although he played only three matches for the Daredevils, he picked up five wickets for them. This year it is a given that he will feature in more than just three games. Axar Patel is there in the team to bowl spin from the other end.
The Delhi Capitals seem to have enough firepower in their ranks to go for their first IPL trophy this season if their players play to their potential.
