The auction of IPL 2019 was held in Jaipur, the pink city of India. More than three hundred International and domestic players participated in the auction. Only 60 players were sold in the auction of which 40 were from India.
The result of the auction this year was completely unexpected. The franchise picked more domestic player than international player which was unexpected. And the selling price for Indian players were more than the internationals. For instance, Jayadev Unadcut and Varun Chakravarthy were bided the highest. Both were sold at 8.4 Crore INR. Sam curren was bought by Kings Eleven Punjab in 7.2 Crore INR, which is the highest among the foreign players. Colin at INR 6.4 Crore is the second highest among the foreign players.
Surprises-
Among the many surprises in the auction this year, the uncapped player getting more money than the capped and experienced player was one of it. Many of the capped player was not sold or was sold in lower value. Varun chakravarthy is one of them, a uncapped player whose name was barely heard. He got sold as the most expensive player in Priti Zinta`s IPL team.
Jaydev Unadcut once again became the most expensive despite failing to perform last season. He also was a top gainer last year among the Indian players. It is really astonishing that franchise again showed their faith on him. Another surprise was Yuvraj singh being sold in the second round. He obtained INR 1 Crore. Among the big names that remained unsold are Del Steyne , Shaun marsh , Cheteswer Pujara and McCullum. It is really surprising that these proven players weren’t bought by any of the team.
Is it end for Yuvraj?
Another big question is on Yuvraj and his career. After not being sold in the first round, the question comes if his career has come to an end. He got the base price in the last round. Mumbai Indian got him in INR 1 crore. With franchise not showing interest and Yuvraj not performing well in the previous season, is it time for him to retire? He is still a crowd favorite and voted by many in the twitter poll.
Including Yuvraj there are many other questions to be answered by upcoming IPL. We will have to see if Varun chakravarthy can become a prosperous deal for Punjab and if Jayadev can stand the trust Franchise showed making him the most expensive player in yet another season. Also, it will be interesting to see if domestic players can do better than foreign player given that most of the foreign players were left out.
