Hardly two days remain for the mega cricket league, the IPL player`s auction. In the view of that, all franchises are busy preparing their shortlist of players they would have in their teams. In the middle of all this, the teams are setting a new trend by asking suggestions from their fans about the players they would have in their favourite teams. Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have all taken the same path. These teams have asked fans on twitter to vote for the players they want to see in their respective teams.
This is an innovative initiative by the franchises. This will help in increasing the popularity of the teams as well the public opinion. It will show the fans that the teams trust their fans and their opinions. It will be helpful for the bidding parties to extract data of a few selected player from a large bunch of players. Cricket fans in India are well informed and would love to have a say on the constitution of their favourite team.
Mumbai Indians Tweet-
Mumbai Indians posted
' Who should Hop onto the Bus'on twitter. Mumbai Indians are three times IPL Champions.
Fans have voted for many players including Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj Singh is most in demand with the MI fans Mushfiqur and Shaun Marsh also in the list of players that have been mostly voted for.
Chennai SuperKings Tweet-
The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings have also asked for suggestions from their fans in just like the other teams.
For the CSK fans too, the first choice is Yuvraj Singh. They want to see the old combination that they had seen in International cricket. They want to see Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni together again. They want two of their favourite players of the years gone by in the same team.
The demand for Yuvraj Singh is truly astonishing. Though the fans have still faith in Yuvi it bodes well for Yuvraj Singh. This high demand may fetch Yuvraj a higher price in the player auctions. In fact, Yuvi is has been a disappointment in the tournament so far. His performances over the for the several teams he has played for so far have been far from outstanding.
There are a few other names that the CSK fans have voted for. Mohammad Shami, McCullum and Mohit are among them and it will be interesting to see who is opted for. Also interesting to see will be how Macculum performs after his retirement from international cricket.
In concluding we can say that involving fans for selecting players is an excellent idea. It will increase the popularity of the tournament and the teams. Many of the fans will be proud of the role they played in constituting the team. That is taking democracy in cricket to the next level.
