The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest ICC ODI rankings. The Indian team is listed second in the ranking charts while the host country, England is ranked number one. While the Indian team has ranking points of 122, the English team has garnered 126 points. India’s successful 4-1 wins against New Zealand cost the host country a place in the rankings. They are now ranked fourth in the list; South Africa has occupied the position of the third ranked team. A look at the rankings of the players suggests that the Indian players dominated the rankings both in the bowling as well as in the batting departments.
Nepal is now ranked 15th in the list of ranked nations, just a few points behind the 14th placed UAE. On the other hand, South Africa earned their third spot by playing well against Pakistan.
Among the batsmen, Virat Kohli the Indian skipper has retained his place as the number one ODI batsman in the world. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s ranking three places and he is now in the 17th position. That reflects his excellent batting form in Australia where he was adjudged the Man of the Series. The South African batsman, Quinton De Kock has improved his ranking by one place to be ranked eight while Hashim Amla has moved up three places and is currently at the thirteenth position. The Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma is still in the second place in the rankings
Jasprit Bumrah still tops the ranking among the bowlers. Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan pace man is ranked second in the list. New Zealand’s Trent Boult benefitted from his bowling performance of 5 wickets for 21 runs against the Indians in the fourth ODI. His overall 12 wicket haul in the series saw him climb seven places to the third spot. While Yazuvendra Chahal gained one place in the rankings Bhuvaneshwar Kumar improved his position by three places and is now ranked in the 17th position.
