The Indian death over specialist bowler Jasprit Bumrah has won several accolades from cricket fans from around the World. This time the appreciation came from no other than the Pakistani legend Wasim Akram who was himself an exceptional bowler. After his exceptional performances in the Test matches against Australia, Bumrah has been rested for the one day series against Australia and against the Kiwis In his absence, the pace attack will be led by his colleagues, Bhuwaneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami. India is still not settled on the third bowling option in place of Jasprit Bumrah yet.

Khaleel Ahmed, Vijay Shankar and Mohammed Siraj have all been given a chance and they will definitely get a chance to make their case over the next four months to book a flight ticket this English summer to the British Isles for the World cup. It is well known that the pace bowlers will get a good feel of the wickets that they are likely to face in England this summer. The cold and blustery weather should give them a chance to hone their skills in their preparation of the World Cup much better than they will be able to do in the matches that they will play later in India.

Wasim Akram was all praise for Bumrah and was of the opinion that he has can bowl the best and most effective yorker in World cricket today. What makes Bumrah special is that he can bowl the ball consistently through his last spell in the inning when the opposition batsmen are looking to go after the bowling. Another factor that comes into play is his awkward bowling action whereby the batsman hesitates for that fraction of a second before making up his mind on how to play the ball. Combining the three attributes make him the most dangerous fast bowler in the world today.

Wasim Akram is of the opinion is that since Bumrah has spent a lot of his early career playing tennis ball cricket, it gives him a good sense of where to land the Yorker. The 25-year-old bowler made his debut against Australia in the ODI matches played in 2006. In the 44 ODI matches so far he has captured 78 wickets bowling with the white ball. His best performances as a bowler have been taking 5 wickets by conceding only 27 runs. That shows his calibre as a fast bowler in limited overs cricket.

While Bumrah’s place is assured along with Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, India will be looking to finalise the places for another at least two fast bowlers in their world cup squad. I think that Mohammed Shami is also assured of a place while the fourth place will be decided between Siraj, Shankar and Khaleel. I would go with Mohammed Khaleel to complete the squad of the fast bowlers.
