Afghanistan spinner Zahir Khan has joined Lancashire CCC for the remainder of the season after impressing in their T20 match against Durham last night . The 19-year-old who took 2-19 from his 4 overs becomes the fourth Afghanistan cricketer after Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi  and Mujeeb Ur Rahman to play domestic cricket in England this year.

Khan responded to the news by saying.

"I'm really excited to be signing for Lancashire for the rest of the campaign. It's always been an ambition of mine to play county cricket in England. I have heard a lot of good things about Lancashire and Old Trafford from Jos Buttler when I played with him at the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and I hope to make a significant contribution during my stay here"

Despite not having appeared for Rajasthan Royals in this year's IPL, the experience has obviously done him a world of good and he looks likely to be a future star. He joins an every growing list of young Afghan players who are having an impact upon the game. The opportunity for Zahir Khan to play in England will also help him to acclimatise to English conditions in preparation for next year's World Cup where he and many of his team mates will hope to further there already burgeoning reputations.

Zahir Khan bowls left-arm wrist spin, arguably the most unique action and style of bowling in world cricket. Indian youngster Kuldeep Yadav recently had a successful IPL season and followed that up with a couple of match winning performances against England this summer. Zahir Khan will be looking to follow in his footsteps and improve upon his first-class record  34 wickets with a further 15 in T20 matches. Khan is yet to make his international debut but he was a part of the Afghanistan Test squad that played the their inaugural match against India, earlier this year.
