Joe Root says he has no beef with Virat Kohli’s mic-drop celebration after the India skipper ran out his English counterpart on day one of the first Test at Edgbaston.

Kohli’s actions came just weeks after Root performed a mic drop of his bat after sealing England’s 2-1 ODI series win over India with an unbeaten ton at Headingley.

"I didn't see it in the middle; I obviously saw it last night at the end of play and actually think it adds to the whole spectacle of Test cricket. It adds a bit of humour to it. It makes for a very interesting series for something like that to happen early on."

SRI LANKA SCRAP IPL-STYLE TOURNAMENT

Sri Lanka have shelved plans a Twenty20 competition akin IPL, instead announcing a local tournament with no foreign players.

"There will be no foreign players, but our own international cricketers will play in the four teams that will take part," a board official told AFP.

The four sides will face each other twice in the tournament, which is slated to begin August 21.

GLAMORGAN LOSE AUSSIE PAIR

Glamorgan's Vitality Blast hopes have been hit by the early departures of Australian pair Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns.

Test batsman Khawaja had been due to miss one T20 match to attend a training camp before Australia A's tour of India, but the left-hander will now miss Glamorgan's final six group games.

Khawaja will return to Australia following Friday's home game against Gloucestershire, while Burns has played his last game for Glamorgan after suffering a back injury.

"It's disappointing Usman and Joe will have to finish their stints at Glamorgan early," chief executive Hugh Morris told the official club website. "Both players have been fantastic for the dressing room, and Usman in particular has shown himself to be a world-class batsman with his performances."
