Nepal continues their impressive run in the second sub-regional qualifier in Malaysia. The top 3 teams of both Eastern and Western region will be through to the regional qualifier where the top 2 teams will be qualified for 2020 ICC T-20 World Cup. The victory against Thailand helped Nepal to reach the top of Eastern Qualification. Nepal is at top of the table with 6 points from 3 games. Singapore also got 6 points from 3 games and are behind Nepal by the net run rate. Nepal secured a very easy win over Thailand by a huge margin of 140 runs(by D/L method) in the third match of their ICC World T-20 Asia region qualification in Malaysia on 7 October 2018. Nepal's Karan KC was selected as a man of the match for his all-rounder performance. He scored 40 runs with 4 fours and 2 sixes in just 14 balls and also take 3 wickets in just 1.5 overs.
In a one-sided match, Thailand won the toss and elected to bowl first, Nepal both openers started the inning really well compared to other qualifier matches, they lost their first wicket at 28 runs. B. Bhandari departs for 15 runs in 8 balls(2 fours and 1 six). Nepal lost their second wicket in the fifth over at 54 runs, the opener AK Shah scored 25 runs in 17 deliveries. Nepal's eighth position batsmen Karan KC scored 40 runs in just 14 deliveries at the end of the inning which helped Nepal to set a big target of 172 runs. Thailand bowler P Sungnard took 4 wickets spending 21 runs in his 4 over spell.
The match was interrupted many times due to rain, a new target of 159 was given to Thailand according to D/L method. Once again Nepali bowlers bowled really well to restrict Thailand in very low total. Before rain stopped the match Thailand was restricted to just 18 runs losing nine wickets in 8.5 over. Nepal bowler Sandip Lamichane took second 5 wicket haul in two successive matches. Only two players succeed to score more than 1 runs for Thailand, 5 of them failed to open their account. Sandip took 5 wickets in just 3 over spending 8 runs with 1 maiden. All-rounder Karan KC took 3 wickets in 1.5 overs spending just 2 runs. After that rain didn't stop and Nepal was declared as a winner by D/L method.
Currently, Nepal is at top of the Table, whereas Singapore is behind Nepal by Net Run Rate. Nepal will face Bhutan on 9th October in their 4th match. For Nepal, Bhutan is a relatively easier opponent than they faced previously on current qualification. Another victory will surely assure qualification of Nepal in final Asia regional qualification for 2020 ICC T-20 World Cup.
