Virat Kohli sought to garner emotional support even as India continued their poor showing in the Test series in England. After failing to chase down 194 in the first Test at Edgbaston, India lost the second match at Lord's by an innings and 159 runs.
Kohli scored 200 runs in the first Test but only managed scores of 23 and 17 at Lord's. However, it is his captaincy that has come under the scanner following the heavy defeat over the weekend. This was infact the first innings defeat for India under Kohli's leadership. This year, India have lost four out of five Tests played overseas in South Africa and England.
Kohli, who is likely to be questioned by BCCI upon his return home, posted a message on Facebook as “Sometimes we win and other times we learn. You never give up on us and we promise to never give up on you either. Onwards and upwards.”
After India went down at Lord's on Sunday, Kohli conceded he had made some selection errors and said India deserved to lose after the way they played.
"Can't really think about conditions when you're playing the game. You can't sit and crib about these things. Sometimes the rub of the green won't go your way. Even when the ball's doing a bit, you have to pitch it in the right areas. Their guys were relentless, they made us work for the runs," Kohli said. "Looking at things now, the weather was so unpredictable, I think we got the combination a bit off before the game. Chance to correct that next game."
“(At) Two-nil down the only option is to come out positive, make it 2-1 and make it an exciting series from there,” Kohli had said.
The third Test starts this Saturday in Nottingham, following which the Indian team for the remaining two matches would be named.
