It’s Christmas across the world at this very time; so here’s me, wishing you and yours, a very Merry Christmas today being the 25th of December 2018, and compliments of the coming New Year.
Meanwhile, today maybe Christmas, and I’m pretty sure that a lot of people didn’t just decide that their birthdays would coincide with Christmas.
However, it so happens that one of the best Cricket batsmen of the modern era, and one of England’s greatest batsmen ever, Alastair Cook, was born today. (That’s Christmas and birthday celebrations, rolled up in one).
How cool is that? Right?
Well, Alastair Cook is a left-handed Cricketer who played as an opening batsman for the English national Cricket team.
He ended his 12-year Test career with England back in September of this year, but not before he achieved legendary status as one of Crickets most iconic batsmen.
Alastair Cook broke records, set records, and became nothing short of a Legend in the sport of Cricket and in England; all before he turned 34 years of age.
The left-hander with the highest-scoring record in the history of Tests, turns 34 years of age today.
But despite having retired from international Cricket with the England national team, his records in the sport will forever speak about his phenomenal status and talent.
Alastair Cook is the batsman with the fifth highest score in Test runs ever. And as far as the statistics go, he is England’s Test matches leading run scorer of all time.
Overall, he remains the youngest ever player to have achieved 12,000 Test runs. Only 6 players have managed the feat, and Alastair Cook happens to be the only English man on the list.
As well as being the most capped Cricketer in England’s history, Cook has the record of Captaining England in 59 Tests and 69 One-Day-Internationals – a worthwhile record on its own.
The 34-year old is the first English Cricketer to participate in 50 Test victories and to achieve a record of 33 Test centuries in his 12-year Test career.
His career kicked-off with the Essex Academy, before featuring for England at every youth team and level.
He was first called up to the England Test side in 2006, and since then, he never looked back, and went on to cement himself as one of England’s greatest achievers in the sport of Cricket, till date.
As of today, he plays for the Essex County Cricket Club, following his international retirement.
Besides being a phenomenal and record-breaking Cricketer, Alastair Cook also writes, plays the saxophone and is a generous philanthropist who has contributed to several charities.
