E.A. - Electronic Arts is a well-known company for producing AAA games and especially for sports category. E.A. has produced a lot of game for Soccer, NBA, FIFA, Sims, Golf, etc. EA had tried with cricket also, back in 2007 EA produced one of the best Cricket game till date. EA Cricket 2007 is one of the cricket game that most of the cricket fans had played once in their life. The game released globally and made a lot of impact on the gaming market but somewhere the game failed and this made EA to no more produce any more titles for Cricket.
Fewer Fans!
Although Cricket is the most playing global game after Soccer, however, Cricket has only 1.2 Billion of fans around the world according to the survey. Cricket is played mostly in the eastern part of the world and some participating nations are not that bigger in population counts plus these people do not play the PC game or have higher frequencies of gaming in their nation. Eastern part is also a developing part of the world hence the rate of digitization is still growing in these nations. With the mere number of gamers plus the slow rate of digitization was not a positive sign as per the business in the gaming sector. After all, E.A. was putting a lot of effort into the cricket games.
Un-supportive boards!
If you have played the game then you will find that the names of the Asian players have been flipped and the reason was that none of such boards provided the license for using their player names or face in the game. Here is the list of Indian players whose names have been flipped due to no support or license from BCCI.
Piracy
Piracy or pirated copies of this game are still available on the internet on larger counts. As most of the eastern nations were new to the gaming world, the use of pirated games has hampered the selling of this game. EA stated that 2 million copies are sold out globally, however, less than 1 million have been sold legally. I was a mod of this game and I have released a number of patches for this game which are still available to download.
EA is no more interested in making cricket games still there are other studios which are releasing cricket games. One of them is Ant Studio which is a group of mods who once moded cricket 07. I worked for several groups for producing the patches. I stopped producing mods when I came to know about the problems that EA faced due to piracy. Planetcricket is a big community dedicated to cricket games and its production.
