Since most of the sport fans in this scorum platform are from countries where cricket is not so much popular, I would love to encourage you to follow & get some knowledge about Cricket. During my short period of one month in this Scorum platform, I learn some fine information about sports like hockey, Football & Basketball. Believe me I had no much of knowledge on above mentioned sports. But I have a good knowledge on Cricket, so I am ready to give some knowledge on it slowly.

Cricket has a long history. But I would like to Introduce some few terms related to Cricket.

What is a Cricket Team?

Well, Cricket is a team game. I hope you all know about it. There are 11 players officially play in a Cricket team. Apart from that there can be substitute players play for a team, but they cannot contribute in Batting & Bowling. Substitute fielders can only field for their respective teams.

Which type of player need for a Cricket team?

Cricket has 4 important roles. Batting, Bowling, Fielding (& Wicket Keeping). A Cricket team should have a Wicket keeper to stand behind the Wickets. Since wicketkeeper keeps the wicket in all time of the game while his team bowling, mostly keeper cannot bowl. So, wicket keeper also must be a player who can bat and have ability to score some runs.

Other 10 players can be divided as batsmen, bowlers and all-rounders. Batsmen are the players who have the good ability to bat. Bowlers are used to taking opposition wickets & stopping the run flow. All-rounders are the players who are clever in both batting & bowling. Usually in modern cricket team has 3-4 specialized batsmen, 2-4 all-rounders & 3-4 specialized bowlers. But there is no rule on that, so a team can choose 11 players on their preferences.

What are the forms of cricket?

I just talk about International arena under this topic. There are 3 major forms of International Cricket.

1) Test Cricket - The oldest & longest form of cricket.

2) One Day International Cricket

3) T20I cricket- The latest & most popular form of cricket.

Test Cricket:

As mentioned above Test Cricket is the oldest form of Cricket & well as the longest one. Time period for a Test Cricket match is 5 days. A Test match consist of 4 innings, 2 for each team. if no team can win the match within 5 days, then it will end as a drawn game.

1st International Test match was played between Australia vs England in 1876.

Basically, Test Cricket played in Red Color leather ball, and both teams wear White Cloths. But since 2015, ICC introduced day & night test cricket, those are play by using Pink Color ball.

Test Cricket is considered as the core of the Cricket. Every Cricketers dream is to represent their Country in a Test match.

ODI cricket:

1st ODI game was also played between Australia and England in 1971. ODI matches are played by using a white color ball, and teams wearing colorful clothes in ODI from 1985. Major ICC Cricket World Cup play in this ODI format.

In ODI formats, both teams will get 50 overs to bat. Normal ODI game will play for 7-8 hours.

Apart from team winning or losing the game, ODI can ended up being a tied game when both teams scored same runs in a game. Also, a game can end in 'No result', if no play can possible due to rain interruptions.

T20 Cricket:

T20 cricket is the latest format of cricket. The first T20 International match played between Australia and New Zealand in 2005. A T20 game has 20 overs for a team. A Normal T20 game will play for 3-4 hours

ICC T20 World Cup was established in 2007. It will play once in every 2 years.

Most of the rules & conditions are same in ODIs & T20. But major difference is, if a T20 match ended in a tie, then both teams will get a super over and then decide the winner. This is like penalty shootout in Football.

ODI Cricket

Cricket experts believe that T20 format is the best way to spread Cricket to the global. Reason for that is T20 format has a short game time. So, more fans will love to see this type of matches in other countries.

Game Officials:

A Cricket game is supervised by number of officials. There are 2 umpires in the middle of the ground, and a 3rd umpire or the tv umpire is in a room. Also, there is a match referee to control the game play.
