Yesterday brought some very brief but befuddling news out of Switzerland.

During the early beginnings of a soccer game, the fans of one of the teams playing (Young Boys Bern) rained tennis balls and console controllers on to the field. In the stands, a banner was unfurled that read "scheiss E-sports" which means "E-sports are shit".

There are also some reports that the game was interrupted in the second half by the FC Basel fans in a similar protest. A banner emblazoned with a giant pause button was unfurled in the stadium, as well. Some reports even say that there was another banner that said "F*** E-sports".

The game was paused while the confused referees cleared the field of the strange and graffiti-ed items.

It is unclear as to exactly why these protests took place by both fanbases at this particular game, or what significance the tennis balls held. However, European soccer clubs have been showing an interest in the growing world of eSports and have been considering the addition of leagues.

FC Basel does have three FIFA players under contract, but so far that seems to be the only definitive connection between either team and eSports. It was altogether a rather befuddling display.

There haven't been any given statements, it seems that the Swiss Footy fans just don't like eSports!

But I will admit, it's driving me crazy trying to figure out why they threw tennis balls!

Perhaps they have some issues with golden balls? Out for a duck? I'm really at a loss so I would love to hear if you have any ideas readers.

Stay tuned for more similar content and e-sports!!

Have a fantastic day,
