"Save the best for last", says the saying, but in this team time trial top favorites Sky and BMC were already in the bunch with first starters.

Sky did not seem to be running smoothly, but Froome and Thomas were leading their buddies to a provisional top time.

BMC soon had to confess color and did not disappoint. Greg Van Avermaet and co shared excellent and clocked 4 counts faster than Sky.

Our compatriot had thus already settled with the yellow threat of Geraint Thomas, but at Quick-Step were still some contenders to kick.

Fernando Gaviria had the best paper of that package, but the Colombian was soon thrown overboard. At one point, Quick-Step even exploded completely. The order was restored fairly quickly, but the damage had already been done.

A strong Gilbert still shared well with his maats, but at the finish the difference with BMC was clear enough: 7 seconds in the stage, 5 seconds in the rankings.

Van Avermaet did not have to take account of Peter Sagan at all. The leader did not know his best day and had his teammates ride in the second part of the team time trial.

What is the verdict for the ranking men?

Richie Porte and Chris Froome / Geraint Thomas did the best thing, but what was the fate of the other favorites?

Adam Yates (Mitchelton, 9 ") and Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb, 12") are allowed to go to bed with a very good feeling.

Uran (EF First, 35 ") also limited the damage, for the trident of Movistar the account with 54" looks a lot less attractive. Romain Bardet and his AG2R, finally, gave 1'15 "prize.
