Berlin and Glasgow will host the first European Championships, a test to create an European multi-sport event.

In an Europe more and more involved in serious political and social problems which undermine its unity, in order to find cohesiveness among the different European countries a lot of institutions and different sport federations are trying to create new events and new context branded “Europe”; giving more and more visibility to the inner European relations. The major purpose is, in fact, to concentrate in one place and above all in the same days the already existing high level disciplines, gathering the best athletes all together. The event is strongly supported by Ebu (European Broadcasting Union), that is the European television company, which has forecasted that the whole event in 11 days will be followed by a public range between 850 millions and 1 billion, trying don’t focusing all the attention on the most popular sports such as swimming and athletic, letting the public pay attention also to less famous sports.

European Championships officially named European Sports Championships is practically consisted of Athletics, Water Sports (swimming, diving, synchronized and open water swimming), Cycling (road, track, mtb , Bmx), Rowing, Artistic Gymnastics, Triathlon and Golf, all these sports joined together in 11 days, will create a big event staged every 4 years in which will take part roughly 4500 athletes coming from 52 different countries.

Athletic competition will take place in Berlin, all the others in Glasgow and others Scotland different areas, in particular, swimming at Glasgow’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre, diving at Edinburgh’s Royal Commonwealth Pool, open water swimming in the breathtaking background of Loch Lomondin South Scotland, Artistic Gymnastics competition at SSE Hydro ( a multi-purpose indoor arena in which was taken the 2005 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships), golf will be host at Gleneagles’ PGA ( where was taken Ryder 2014 Cup) and rowing will take place at Strathclyde Country Park.

Among the about 4500 athletes stand out great champions as Adam Peaty, unbeatable in frog style, and the Italian freestyle swimmer Federica Pellegrini that together with others in a lot of races will take part in outstanding challenges already oriented to Tokyo 2020.
