The rumor says that Kimi Raikkonen has renewed his contract with Scuderia Ferrari for 2 more years instead of ditching him for young Charles Lecler.

All in all, as a massive fan of Kimi (got shirts to prove it :) ) I think he is still very good driver but somehow he is too edgy and inconsistent during the weekend. If he is good in qualifying he will mess up the start or the race. If he messes up qualies he will rock the grid, but still can't get more than 3rd place in this world, sometimes even going lover than that.

Lecler has shown consistency in outperforming the car and his teammate this season but I still think that for his sake he needs one or two seasons at the midfield (Sauber/Haas) or he will burn up like Kvyat, even tho I would like him back in the sport he was just too clumsy last season.

If this turns out as truth Kimi will go away from F1 together with this era of engines; Which means new blood will be in Ferrari with new engines and rules. And currently with disturbance caused by death of Marchionne Ferrari opted for stability and harmony in the team. Vettel and Kimi get along and they work great outside the track and they battle with respect and cooperate on the track.

I love that Kimi is staying for 2 more years, and I think with his driving and speed he deserved the seat; but he will play the second fiddle to the Vettel, since his inconsistency.

And in two years lots of changes will happen in the driver's lineup. Maybe Lecler will be promoted to Haas, prior to getting into F1, and Ricciardo is on 2 years deal in Renault - but this is all fun and games for journalists.

All in All, having Kimi, Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton and Ricciardo out there is great for the sport not just for their different driving styles and battles but their humor from radio broadcast.

What do you think about this news? F1 without rumors would be dead, it is part of the sport.
