The Falconets

The Nigerian Under-20 women's team the falconets end their 12years gold medal search at the African games as they won gold in the Women's football event after defeating archrivals Cameroon 3-2 at the Boubker Aamar Stadium, Sale, on penalties after a goalless draw at regular time and extra time.

The Falconets qualified to the final after whitewashing Algeria 3-0 while opponent Cameroon came from behind to defeat host Morocco 3-1 at extra time after a hard fight 1-1 stalemate at regular time.

Cameroon therefore qualified for the final for the third consecutive time.

The enthusiastically contested game between the two teams, who had battled to a 1-1 draw in the group stage match earlier, ended 0-0 after regulation and extra time.

The Falconets has won the gold medal in the Women's football event twice in the past but failed to even reach final since 2007 having not qualified for the 10th edition in Mozambique in 2011.

Four years ago in Brazzaville, Congo, the West Africa ladies were not favoured to fall within the medals' range.
