The first showdown of the season between Brighton and Manchester United was a very entertaining affair, which included a VAR show and two goals in overtime. On Sunday night, the teams met at Old Trafford, where they each represented their end of the table - Manchester United top and Brighton bottom.

David De Gea was not included in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's starting line-up, who seems to prefer Dean Henderson at the moment. Edinson Cavani was after a month of injury back in the red jersey from the start.

Despite dominance on the ball, Brighton had the most chances in the first half and also scored the only goal in the first 45 minutes. Danny Welbeck was first on his own blocked attempt and surprisingly headed the away team in front after 13 minutes.

In the second half, the home team began to become more dangerous forward in the field. A quarter of an hour into the second half, Bruno Fernandes passed the ball to Marcus Rashford, who safely placed the goalkeeper in the bottom corner.

Manchester United kept up the pressure and with ten minutes left it paid off. Paul Pogba's unsuccessful shot ended up being a good pass to Mason Greenwood, who was able to head the ball unmarked from close range to make it 2-1.

The Red Devils secure three important points in the top battle, but still have a full 14 points up to rivals Manchester City in first place.
