There was smiles on the faces of every Everton faithfuls even before the 2020/2021 season began, as news spread that Everton has signed 2014 World cup golden boy, James Rodriguez from Real Madrid.

James was to be reunited with former boss Carlo Ancelotti, who apparently knows how to get the best out of the Colombian.

James will make his first debut against Tottemham and show glimpses of the James we came to love from 2014. The match would end in a win for Everton and with that followed six consecutive victories before their first loss; which unsurprisingly came in a match which Richarlison and James failed to feature in. In addition, Everton failed to score for the first time this season in that match as well.

James and Richarlison apparently do the very much needed work in the team. The former is responsible for finding and creating opportunities in the opposition area while the latter is responsible for dragging defenders away from fellow striker Calvert Lewin who does the finishing job.

It is no disrespect to Calvert who on his own part has worked so hard to improve his scoring rate this season, evidenced by scoring Everton's only goal against Newcastle today, but it doesn't change the fact that James and Richarlison make certain the team get at least a point from each game. They either outscore you and share the spoils, like they did against EPL defending champions, Liverpool.

It is too bad to acknowledge the fact that Everton is relying on just two men to keep them running but I believe Ancelotti is working towards making Everton retain their form and class no matter the situation.
