in 2010 Andres iniesta was football's poster boy and everyone's strong favourite to win the Fifa ballond'or, after a fantastic season,that culminated with him being named in the team of the tournament, as Spain won the world cup,the stakes were high on him to win football's most prestigious individual accolade,he made the final cut,but couldn't cut home the award,as he lost out to club teammate,Lionel messi,he had other subsequent nominations, but lost out to the same guy,but that doesn't take away the fact that he's one of the greatest players,to come out of his generation,he may not have won the award,but definitely won the love of so many football fans

Fastforward to 2018,and we have another deep lying playmaker,in strong contention to win the ballond'or award,which has since separated from fifa,except this time the stakes are even higher, luka modric has undoubtedly had the best year of his footballing career,that has seen him scoop up a champions league medal,a world cup silver medal,the world cup golden ball,FIFA's best men's player of the year,and uefa player of the year,mirroring his performances on the pitch,while there have been clamours for the Real Madrid ace to finally end the decade long dominance of Lionel messi and Christiano Ronaldo over the award,which has seen it being turned into a duopoly,between the two players, their some quarters who feel,the Croatian doesn't deserve to win the award well, as long as Andre's iniesta didn't
