Wolves and Newcastle goals

It was the second matchday of premier league matchday 8 actions. We had another chance of witnessing amazing matches and some unexpected and shocking results. The two Manchester clubs all lost all 3points in their respective fixtures as both man city and man united head into the international break with 0 points in the bag. Man City needed to win this game to stay very close to Liverpool in the title race, however, Wolves showed once again why they are known as the big team nemesis as they beat City 2 nil at the Etihad.

Man United problems this season continue as they yet again acquire a poor result away from home. This was a game Man United needed to win to push up the table and reduce the gap at the top. However, Newcastle showed quality as they claim all the 3 points against Man United at home.

Brief Post-Match Analyses

Man City vs Wolves

This was a very interesting fixture prior to the game as we all knew what Wolves are capable of especially against the big teams. Wolves didn’t kick off the season like they would have hoped for, they recently got their first win against Watford and have now gotten back to back wins. Man City were expected to get the job done at home, however, Wolves proved too strong and had their own plans.

Man City setup in their expected 4-3-3 formation with Aguero as the number 9, While Wolves setup in their usual 3-5-2 formation with Cutrone and Jimenez as the two strikers. The game began and we all saw one of those game where Man City knew it would be a tough battle for them on their ground. City had more of the ball as usual and as expected, however, Wolves defensive discipline and organization meant it was impossible for City to create clear cut chances. Wolves on the other hand, capitalized on perfect counter-attacking opportunities to hurt Man City.

Adama Traore scored the two goals for Wolves in the 80th and 90+4 minute respectively following devastating counter-attacks.

Newcastle vs Man United

Man United prior to this game had come from a terrible outing in the Europa League, a game that saw a while Man United not hit a shot on target. However, their problems this season gets even worse as Newcastle beat them by a goal to nil to claim all 3 points at the St James’ Park.

Newcastle set up in a 5-4-1 formation with Joelinton as the number 9, While Man United set up in their preferred 4-2-3-1 formation with Rashford as the number 9. The game began and from the first minute, we all saw a Manchester United team that wasn’t cohesive and disjointed in their play. Newcastle were clearly the better side for most parts of the game and took the deserved lead late in the game.

Longstaff gave Newcastle the lead in the 72nd minute with a sweet strike outside the box to beat De Gea and to send the Newcastle supporters wild in joy.
