Reaching the World Cup final is always something special. Not so many players and coaches have done it throughout history. An only a few people have managed it both as a player and a coach - and now Didier Deschamps joined the club.

Only Brazil’s Mario Zagallo and Germany’s Franz Beckenbauer have won the World Cup in both roles. Zagallo won the title as a player in 1958 and 1962, and then as a head coach in 1970. Beckenbauer was crowned the world champion in 1974 as a player, and led the team to another triumph in 1990.

Another German Rudi Voeller was a member of Beckenbauer’s squad in 1990 - and he tried to win the trophy as a coach 12 years later. However, in 2002 Germany lost 0:2 to Brazil in the final match.

So Deschamps, who won the World Cup in 1998, has become the fourth person to reach the final in both roles. Will he repeat the achievement of Zagallo and Beckenbauer, or will he follow Voeller’s footsteps - it is remained to be seen on Sunday.
