5. Mario Kempes: 38 Dribbles (1978)

The Argentines lifted their first ever World Cup trophy in 1978. The hero of the day was the legendary striker Mario Kempes. The diminuitive forward scored two goals in the final to defeat the Dutch team. It ended 3-1 in favour of the Argentines. He won the Golden Boot by scoring six times in the tournament. He was also named Best Player in the tournament to lift the Golden Ball award. The country sang his name until 1986 when Diego Maradona delivered another trophy in style. Kempes completed 38 dribbles at the tournament.

4. Eden Hazard 40 Dribbles (2018)

Belgium took the bronze medal in the recently concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia. They beat the English team 2-0 in third-place match. The Belgians lost narrowly in the semi-final to eventual champions France. One of the best performers in the tournament is no doubt, Eden Hazard. The Chelsea playmaker was involved in 7 goals in the tournament (3 goals, 4 assists). He also registered 40 dribbles which is now the fourth highest ever in World Cup.

3. Lionel Messi 46 Dribbles (2014)

In 2014, Lionel Messi inspired the Argentine team to the final but they were beaten by the Germans thanks to a solitary goal for Mario Goetze in extra time. The barcelona star was named Player of the tournament. He completed 46 dribbles which is the third highest completed. He also won the player of the tournament.

2. Jarzingho 47 Dribbles (1970)

The winger was quick, skillful and powerful. He could dribble past a number of players. The Brazilians played the best football ever seen in World Cup history in 1970 when they won the trophy for the third time. Jairzinho completed 47 dribbles in that tournament alone.

1. Diego Maradona 53 Dribbles (1986)

Diego Maradona tops the list with 53 dribbles and it is still a record to beat. Argentina last won the World Cup trophy in 1986. He was the star player in 1986. He also scored the famous goal of the century against the English team. Likewise in the same match, he also scored what is known as ‘The Hand of God’ goal. However the later part of his career was marred with drug abuse.
