4 round still to play and round 6 of the Jupiler Pro League PO I didn't bring a lot of wisdom!

First let's have a look at the standing before we discuss the round!

Round 7 started Friday evening with the clash between Antwerp and Standard. Both are battling it out for the third place in the ranking. The third place does guarantee an European Ticket, the fourth place still have to play a decider against the winner of Play Off II. Before the game Standard had a one point advantage, so they would be satisfied with a draw! But after a game full of incidents Antwerp did keep the 3 points at home! Resulting in turning the table and now having a 2 point lead over Standard.
The game was suspended because the coach of Standard got a beer shower from the home crowd! I really don't understand why people are doing this!
Standard also missed a penalty and the rebound for an open goal was also missed! Causing a lot of frustration, which of course resulted in a nasty foul of Standard. In a logical world there would be only one justified decision a dark red card for the Standard player, but in football nothing is logical. So a red card was giving for the Antwerp player! WTF. He pushed the standard player a little bit and of course the standard player acted like he was hit by a long range sniper! I really hate this in football and this is getting worse with the year!

Gent vs Genk

On Saturday Genk had the difficult away trip to Gent. Gent has to play the Cup final this Wednesday, so everybody did expect that a lot of player would get some rest. But we were wrong. Gent didn't rest too many players and were the better team in the first half! But after the coffee break Genk did increase the pace of play anbd just walked over Gent. The end result was a dry 0-1, but good enough for 3 points and to put a lot of pressure on Club Brugge!
While it wasn't a great game, Genk deserved the victory. Results like this does make you a champion!

Club Brugge vs Anderlecht

The two rivals both with other troubles! Club Brugge was feeling the pressure of Genk and Anderlecht only got one point out of the first 5 games! The game was a boring one. Anderlecht just doesn't have the quality and the moment and Club Brugge wasn't great. A goal in the second half did keep the champion dreams of Brugge alive!

Next round!

The supporters of Genk are dreaming of the scenario where they do take title during the away game in Brugge. This one is sheduled from Round 8. With the current lead of 6 points this could be possible. But first they have on Friday the home game against Antwerp! During the regular competition this game did end in a scoreless draw. The previous game in the POI between these two teams resulted in a hold up of Antwerp, winning 1-0. Both teams will be very motivated. Genk really want to take the title and Antwerp does want to end on the third place! This will be a very interesting game!

Club Brugge has an away game planned to Gent. This one should be easier for Brugge! There are 2 possible scenarios! Gent will be still in celebration mode when they do take the cup on Wednesday or they will be completely demotivated because the lost it against the Champion of the second division. An excellent timing for Brugge to have this away game! But they do have the disadvantage that Genk will play first! A Genk win will increase the pressure on Brugge!

The last game of the round is between Anderlecht and Standard. Besides pride Anderlecht has nothing to play for anymore and Standard if fighting for the third place. The previous game between these two was suspended due to misbehaviour of the Anderlecht fans. They are really disappointed with only 1 point out of 6 Play Off games. Another defeat againt the rivals from Liege could disrupt the game again!

Interesting PO for sure!

I do hope that Genk can win it's fourth Belgian title!

Cheers,
Peter
