Well the talk of the town this week was/is the injury of Vukovic! He did torn his achilles during the daily warm up in the gym. He jumped down from a low bench, like he already did 1000 of times! But this time it went wrong! Terribly wrong!

A torn achilles takes a healing from 5 to 7 months! For a keeper maybe even a little bit longer! So, it is safe to write that his season is over! The doctors do expect a full recovery. It will be tough for him to get back to the picking order number 1 after his injury!

But Genk is Genk and they do what they preach! So no new goalie will be bought, but they will show faith in the youth!

Gaeton Coucke will be from now on the number 1 in the picking order! Only 21 years old and he will face a tough challenge with the Champions League coming up! Last season he was loaned out to Lommel SK (in the Belgian second division) where he did great! But there is a big difference between the Belgian second division and the Champions League! But the staff think the can handle it! Courtois also did get a place in the goal because the paperwork of Lazlo Koteles did get in order! And we know how that evolved!

Also Vandevoordt will move up a place in the picking order. He is only 17!

Next game! KV Mechelen – Genk

Saturday the second game of the season will be played against KV Mechelen. KV Mechelen was beaten with 3-0 in the supercup 2 weeks ago, but Mechelen won surprisingly last week away at Zulte Waregem. So a second victory against them will not be an easy task!

For the moment Berge and Samatta are still with Genk. Let’s hope both will stay at least until the winter break at Genk.

Curious if Benson will make the starting 11. Last week he just wanted too much to do his best. By doing this he tried to hard and made too many wrong choices.

I do expect that he will be replaced by Hagi. Nygren will move to the left winger position and Hagi will replace Nygren central at the midfield!

I won’t be able to watch the game because we have a weekend family trip to an amusement park!

Cheers,

Peter
