This evening the Belgian competition will be opened with the super cup. It is the game between the champion and the cup winner of last season.

The game is played at Genk, the current champion. As Champion they will be getting the home advantage!

I do think that there will be a special atmosphere. First of all only 12K tickets are sold. Due to the fact that the income from the ticket sale is shared between the two team, season ticket holders will have to buy a separate ticket, combine this with the current holiday in Belgium and you will know why there isn't a lot of interest.
The atmosphere will be also special because KV Mechelen is found guilty of match fixing but due to a loop hole in the regulation they couldn't be punished anymore with relegation, a revoke of the license or something else. I am curious how the crowds of the other teams will react on this when they play KVM at home.

Genk

The first official game of the season and immediatly the first chance for the new head coach Mazzu to take his first prize! It is time to show the world how he will play with Genk this season. But he has to be carefull because there is a big chance that Berge and Samata will leave the club during the remainder of the transfer season. So he will need to have multiple plans.

Also a great opportunity for the newcomers to present them to their new fans! I am very curious about Hagi, Nygren (only 17) and Cuesta. But only Cuesta is expected to start the game.

KV Mechelen

It is hard to judge how prepared and motivated they are for this game.

They have been preparing the season in uncertainty. Uncertain which punishment the team will get for the match fixing scandal. Now this is behind them and they can focus on the competition.
So, no idea how well prepared they are, but they will be motivated for sure!

With 4 key players injured, I do think that they will face a tough game!

My verdict

It is always hard to start the competition with a prediction, but I do think that we will see plenty of goal and that Genk will win easily!
