The EPL is really becoming more interesting than we thought and the surprises are happening too fast than many of us would have predicted. Well, the presumption that the battle for the title this season is again between Manchester City who are the defending champions of the Premier league and Liverpool, who have been basking in the Pride of their European glory seems settled. With many football fans not willing to counter this, we can reasonably say that a good number of football fans to a grear extent agree on that till proved otherwise.
Last season, we saw a protracted quest between these two teams on who wears the EPL crown, a fight no one was sure of its end even at the tale end of the season. With City emerging winners through the eye of a needle after they came from behind to topple a high flying Liverpool side, one might be expecting similar drama or stunt again this season. However, the big question is whether Manchester City can really stage another comeback against the European champions this time with 8 points gap on the league table. Eight games have been played so far and Liverpool appear more consistent than their rivals. Klopp's side maintained 100% start so far by winning all their 8 league matches.
Manchester City on the other hand have only been able to secure 5 wins, one draw and have been subjected to two defeats already, the latest being a 0-2 loss to a resilient Wolverhampton side. Though City have scored more goals(27) than the league leaders so far this season, Klopp will sure be contented with the advantages he has and will hope it never comes to a stage where goals will be used to determine who wins the league. Liverpool almost dropped points at Anfield against a stubborn Leicester side, but a late winner was all they needed to grab all points and consolidate their place on the table.
However, the Spaniard appears unfazed by the recent setbacks his side have suffered and have made it clear that The Citizens are far from throwing in the Towel, as they are still lots of games to go. An eight point gap behind a team like Liverpool at their peak is no small mountain to climb, but this is Pep Guardiola who has proved his mettle time without number. While many think the City boss is a big dreamer if he is contemplating of toppling Liverpool again, others are not swift to disregard his records and the fighting venom of Manchester City. In a league like English Premier League, an Eight points gap against a team like Manchester City after just 8 league games is not a guarantee for anything.
I'm sure City knows what's before them and Pep is a bag of motivation. When asked about the possibility of City winning the league this season, Pep said in a media conference... "Come on guys, there are a lot of games to go, We lost to a good team, who were really organised, so strong in the air and so fast in the counter attack. I know these guys [his players]. Still they are incredibly involved and can do it. What happened, happened. Most of the teams who won [the Premier League] in the past, the year after, don't win. Today, we were not at our usual level. The previous games were good, but the distance is big. I know that. Liverpool is not dropping points. But we are in October; there is still a lot of games and competitions."
