The race for who becomes the next Premier league Champion seems like it's becoming a bit more predictable now and we may not get to witness the two-headed tough contest we saw in the last campaign between Liverpool and Manchester City. You will recall that The Citizens came from seven points or thereabout to topple the European champions to eventually emerge as league winners for the second time in a row under Pep Guardiola. Despite winning the trophy, it was that kind of triumph one gets through the eye of a needle. I wouldn't say Manchester city didn't perform well, but I think fortune was on their side. Klopp's Liverpool later finished the season as Champions of Europe, a better silverware when compared to the Premier league. This season started with City nursing the intention of lifting the Premier league title for the record three times in a row, a feat which is fast appearing as a mirage, judging from the way things are going.

Before the international break, Liverpool were six points ahead of the league rivals, but many didn't see that as something to blow the trumpet for.

This is because most of us thought Manchester City would slice down the gap to three points when both sides meet before the international break proper. However, the game saw City fall to another defeat at Anfield as a resilient Liverpool hit them 3-1 to widen the gap to nine points. That result though came when the league is still many matches away, it may end up being a defeat that Manchester City will rue succumbing to. A three point gap would have helped their course of title defense and would have exerted pressure on Liverpool, however, with 9 points gap, the reds appear to be going into each game with more confidence. Manchester City will be banking on other teams to slow down Liverpool's pace to reduce the points, at least before both sides clash in their second leg at the Etihad later. Well, which team can actually upset Liverpool now? I have no other name left in my head than Leicester City who are currently at the peak of their game, and they're occupying the second spot on the table. For me, I really don't see City toppling Liverpool this season again, what do think?
