After watching Monday's night match between Ole's Manchester United and Unai Emery's Arsenal at Old Trafford, there is no iota of doubt left in me as regards how expedient it is for United to get a Striker, not just a forward but someone whose experience will help boost the attacking morale of Ole's side. As it stands now, I don't think their current attacking line up will be enough to help Manchester United secure even a fourth place on the log.
Rashford and Lingard are far from the dread an attacking team should posses, in fact the impact of their goal attempts sends no threatening signal to any strong defensive side. Against Arsenal, Rashford was the flop of the match for me. From non accurate passes to his inability to make runs or charge and pressurise Arsenal's defense. He also missed some chances that some believe would have been scored by some more experienced forward. While many United fans have continued to call on the Side to make a new signing, especially a Striker with a goal scoring instinct, others believe United also need to consolidate their midfield.
With Anthony Martial yet to return, rumours have been making the rounds in relation to a possible United move for the Croatian Mario Mandzukic. The Striker is currently playing for Juventus. However, it seems the arrival of Maurizio Sarri and the coach's preference for Gonzalo Higuain has deprived the 33 year old some chunks of playing time. Manchester United's attacking form is really a big problem as the team have only been able to score nine goals so far this season. If one compares that to the 27 and 18 of Manchester City and Liverpool respectively(I stand to be corrected), then it's obvious Ole Gunnar needs to add flesh to his attack in the January transfer window.
Ole's rumoured interest in the 33 year old have raised dust in the media and some sports analysts are of the view that Mandzukic is already advanced in age. However for me, I think Mario Mandzukic will be a good move because of his experience which he has shown over the years. His presence in the front line will go a long way to boost United's offensives. When he arrives and plays as a the center forward, Martial and Rashford can then operate from the flank. I will personally like to see United intensify their interest in the Croatian.
