I have also noticed increase in terms of scorum users and new members are beginning to take advantage of this moment to build their stakes. So yesterday night, Ole's Manchester United hosted Pep's Manchester City at Old Trafford in their Carabao Cup Semi final first leg. Before the game, I had mixed feelings about picking who was the favorite to win the match, especially after what happened between both sides in December when their clashed in the Premier League.
That game ended in a 2-1 win for Ole's united, thereby dealing a huge blow to anything that was left in City's title hope this season. Ole's United seem to be a bit tougher when playing against big teams than when going against assumed smaller teams, thereby making me unable to include their Tuesday night match with City in my bet. Just didn't know what to predict. With no Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus upfront, my fears were a bit justified, how could Pep take such a risk? But then, City's mission for the night was clear from onset and they made sure they put the game beyond the reach of United before the halftime whistle was blown. The game which culminated in a 3-1 win for the Visitors, was another message from the league champions, that though they may have conceded league defeat to Liverpool, they are still a force to reckon with, and any team which plays down their pedigree will have to feel their heat. For Pep, it was an opportunity to tell Ole that what happened in December was no reflection of United's hardwork, but a slack from City. City corrected that impression in their typical style and dominated United all through the first 45 minutes. Some Sports analysts are of the view that United had their worst first half outing at Old Trafford in more than 2 decades against City on Tuesday night's Carabao Cup clash, conceding three goals before halftime.
The last time such ordeal befell them was in May 1997 against Middlesbrough. It was the Portuguese Bernado Silva who who drew the first blood for City, after stunningly curling a left foot shot into the top corner, leaving De Gea with no time to react appropriately. Though Ole's United tried toppling their visitors with Counters, it all proved abortive as City's defense were equal to the task. It didn't take too long for the Algerian Riyad Mahrez to make it 2-0 for City, thanks to a well crafted assist by Bernado Silva. Mahrez who was also a nominee alongside Mane and Salah for the African player of the year award which took place in Egypt on Tuesday, will be happy he made something out of his night, having not attended the ceremony which saw Sadio Mane emerge as winner. Andreas Pereira's own goal ensured City will have nothing to worry about when they resume after the break. It was 3-0 to the Visitors in first half. Though United improved in the second half and mounted pressure on City, but the best they could get from that was a Marcus Rashford consolation goal, at least to give United fans hope when both teams clash in January 29th at the Etihad stadium for their second leg. City are enroute their 3rd consecutive Carabao cup title, and won't let this slip through their fingers, not after they have lost out in contention for the League title.
