It's gonna be going down today at Saudi Arabia, as two Spanish elephants lock horns in the Super Cup away from home. It's the battle for supremacy, bragging right and Pride of who rules Madrid, but this time, the venue of the duel will be somewhere far from Madrid. You will recall that Zidane's Real Madrid booked a place in this year's Super Cup final after defeating Valencia 3-1 in the Semi final. Loss Blancos have won this trophy 10 times, the last time they lifted the silverware was in 2017. At the Other end is a resilient Diego Simeone's Athletico side, who will never let you get a win on a platter of gold. They're going into this encounter with their City rivals well fired up. Don't forget they had to overcome an overwhelming Messi led Barcelona in the Semi final to book a spot in the the final. Simeone's side had to grit their teeth and grind out a 3-2 win in the Semi Final against the Spanish league champions. This trophy is of great importance to Athletico, as winning the League and Champions league appeal a bit far fetched and unpredictable.
For Madrid, anything to help consolidate their rejuvenating form will be a confidence booster and trust me, beating their City rivals will go a long way to fire up their morale as their continue their hunt for the league and European glory. Athletico will be looking forward to lift the Cup for the third time after kissing it last in 2014. Looking at both sides statistically, it may be very tricky to pitch tent with any side. In the previous five meetings between this two sides in all competition, the charts show that Simeone's Athletico have always been a rough ride for Los Blancos. In those encounters, Real have lost twice to Athletico, recording two goalless draws and squizzing out one win. Real Madrid will be going into the game without almost all their regular forwards, Benzema, Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard and Marcos Asensio. St the other end is an Athletico side who will also be going into the clash without their beautiful Goa poacher Diego Coaster, also Thomas Lemar is likely not to feature too. Being a Barcelona fan, I will be watching this game from an unbiased seat, relaxed and less tensed.
