Sometimes, Life doesn't give every man what they deserve, and at other times, it may reward some more than they really deserve. No matter how we wanna see it, misfortune or hard luck is another way nature reminds us that we are still mortals and can't always have what we deserve. I hate sounding or being seen as a motivational speaker, especially on a platform like Scorum that is restricted to Sports blogs. However, some of the events that transpire in the world of sports also reflect the realities of human existence.
In that sense, we will always make attempts to marry the happenstances in Sports with our daily living. So, let's get sporty!
It's no more news that the 2020 Ballon d'or award was suspended few weeks back in July. France Football which has been awarding the prize since its inception in 1956(I humbly stand to be corrected), took it to the media to officially announce the cancelation of this year ceremony of the prestigious award. The news rented the air and raised lots of dust amongst football lovers around the globe. The body of course gave the reason for the cancelation, and it was not unconnected with the protracted Covid-19 scare, which greatly disrupted football activities and economies around the globe.
While many Sports analysts have found this reasonable due to the supervening circumstances brought about by the Pandemic, others believe it's unfair for some players who would have stood a chance winning the Ballon d'or ahead of Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo.
While some French football supporters think Kylian Mbappe, most fans believe the Bayern Striker Robert Lewandowski deserves the prize, as far this campaign is concerned, and I personally think this is the fact! The Polish striker has been at top of his game for the German champions for some years now, but Messi and Ronaldo have always overshadowed his shine.
But that was not going to be the case this season, as the polish striker seems to be ahead of the scoring park. He has recorded over 50 goals already for Bayern this season in all competitions. Lewandoski won the golden boot in Bundesliga after scoring 34 goals to help Bayern win the league. He is also leading the goal scoring chart in the Champions league, having netted 11 goals already, with Messi and Ronaldo no way close to his stats.
I really think Robert Lewandoski is the most unfortunate player this season, and would have stood a better chance more than any other player in the race for the Ballon d'or this year. Life can be hard at times, and sometimes, we all need a drop of luck to finish the battle.
